  • Costco has recalled its Traditional Madeleines following a packaging blunder that instead filled the packages with Chocolate-Hazelnut Madeleines.
  • The affected products do not list hazelnut on the packaging, endangering those with nut sensitivities and allergies.
  • The affected products were distributed to select warehouses across the country between March 30 and April 6, 2026.

Attention Costco shoppers! One of the warehouse’s popular baked goods has been recalled due to undeclared allergens. Earlier this week, Costco sent a notice to members who have purchased the affected product, the Traditional Madeleines. According to the notice, the package of madeleines was unintentionally filled with heart-shaped chocolate-hazelnut madeleines instead, which could be dangerous for those with nut allergies.

The affected products were distributed to the following Costco warehouse locations:

  • Missoula, Montana
  • Burlington, Washington
  • East Peoria, Illinois
  • Bellevue, Wisconsin
  • Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin
  • Chico, California
  • Thornton, Colorado
  • Gilroy, California
  • Bayamón, Puerto Rico
  • Pembroke Pines, Florida
  • Fairfax, Virginia.

While Nutella lovers may indeed enjoy these treats, nut-sensitive people should avoid them at all costs. The madeleines were distributed to these locations between March 30 and April 6, 2026, and according to the notice, “People with a hazelnut or filbert allergy or severe sensitivity risk a life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.”

As such, members can return their Traditional Madeleines to their local Costco for a full refund. This just proves why it’s always better to make your own madeleines at home—the mistakes are all your own, and they will taste way better anyway.
