  • During the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary special, Miley Cyrus revealed her go-to Panda Express order from her Disney Channel days.
  • She said she used to order white rice and pour Diet Coke on top instead of soy sauce.
  • It sounds messy, but Coke does occasionally show up in fried-rice recipes and restaurant-style cooking.

We learned a lot during the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special—like whether Miley Cyrus is Team Jesse or Team Jake, who she had a crush on during filming, and perhaps most surprisingly, what her really strange off-set meals were with co-star Emily Osment.

The pair apparently frequented Panda Express after work, and Cyrus revealed her go-to order was… unusual. As she put it, “I did something really gnarly. My favorite thing to get at Panda Express was the white rice and pour Diet Coke on top, instead of soy sauce. It’s a whole thing,” she explained.

She went on to defend herself, saying, “I am from the south in a way that it’s really hard to describe.” Well, Diet Coke rice is one way to describe it!

People on social media took offense at this combination, with one fan saying, “Straight to jail.”

Another chimed in, “I feel there is a therapy for this,” with another fan asking, “Who hurt you?”

Another person joked, “What in the Caucasian,” while one commenter guessed, “I’m convinced this either sarcasm or a ‘let’s give them something to talk about’ comment.”

And while it certainly sounds like a strange combo, it may not be as random as it seems. I did a little digging and found, in a Reddit thread about making hibachi fried rice, that their local restaurants use Coke as an added ingredient. “The ones around here have Coca-Cola in the hibachi fried rice that might be the flavor you’re missing. You can watch them make it, just note about how much/what stuff they’re using,” they wrote.

There are also many Coke fried rice recipes online, with many people cooking their rice in the bubbly soda for some sweetness and added flavor. So while Miley’s Panda Express order may sound deeply cursed at first, the Disney legend may be onto something after all.
