  • Pop-Tarts is launching a new Super Stuffed line this April with 50 percent more filling than the original.
  • The new pastries come in Molten Lava Cake, Cinnamon Caramel, and Strawberry Blast, though Cinnamon Caramel is exclusive to Walmart.
  • Delish editors thought the filling could be a little too much, but agreed kids will probably be all over them.

If you’re one of those people who live by the motto “more is more,” then Pop-Tarts’ new Super Stuffed toaster pastries may be for you. Following the brand’s recentProtein Pop-Tarts and Pop-Tarts Ice Cream Sandwiches, the nostalgic favorite is doubling down on innovation with a new line that packs in 50% more ooey-gooey filling than the original.

Launching in April, Pop-Tarts Super Stuffed is rolling out in three tasty flavors: Strawberry Blast, Molten Lava Cake, and Cinnamon Caramel. Strawberry Blast and Molten Lava Cake will be available at stores nationwide, while Cinnamon Caramel is a Walmart exclusive.

There are a few noticeable differences between Super Stuffed and the classic Pop-Tart, beyond the obvious filling boost. A standard box comes with eight pastries, packaged two per sleeve, with one serving equaling two pastries. Super Stuffed, on the other hand, comes in boxes of only five (each individually wrapped), and a serving size is one pastry.

Right away, there was one major difference: these pastries are fragile. It was hard to get one out of its sleeve without at least part of the crust breaking off. We need an engineer on the case!

Of the three, Molten Lava Cake was probably the closest to resembling an existing Pop-Tarts flavor, similar to Frosted Chocolate Fudge. It explodes with a rich, chocolatey flavor, but the filling is where it really shines, which tastes a lot like brownie batter. It wouldn’t be my first choice for breakfast, but as a dessert? I’d give it a go.

Super Stuffed Cinnamon Caramel

In a surprising departure from the fan-favorite Cinnamon Brown Sugar, this Super Stuffed version swaps in caramel, making it extra sweet. As a full-grown adult, I found it a little too sweet for my taste, but I can imagine kids loving it. Texturally, though, this was the standout. The filling was the gooeyest and most satisfying, while the other two flavors had a less viscous, grainier filling.

Super Stuffed Strawberry Blast

Then there’s Strawberry Blast, which proves you really can’t go wrong with a classic. This was hands down my favorite of the bunch. The jammy filling really shone through, and as a big fan of the classic Pop-Tart iteration, if any flavor could sway me toward the Super Stuffed variety, it would be this one.

The Verdict

Overall, most Delish editors had similar feelings about the new Super Stuffed Pop-Tarts. As Associate Editor Gabby Romero put it, “I never thought I’d say it, but sometimes there’s too much of a good thing. The pastry-to-filling ratio was off, and, save for the molten lava cake, the fillings were all so sweet. But if I still had the sugar tolerance I had as a kid, I’d probably feel differently.”

Digital Editor of Community Taylor Worden had a different take: “I’m a fan. Personally, I prefer the one per package, and the amount of stuffing didn’t feel overfilled, but the exact right amount that I want in a Pop-Tart. My only complaint is they are sooo crumbly, and broke apart almost immediately.”

“These were fun (and would probably be even MORE fun if I were 12), but I prefer the filling-to-crust ratio of the original,” added Senior Editor Samantha MacAvoy.

If you’re an adult, you may still want to stick with the classic Pop-Tart. But if you’re a kid—or just have the palate of one—these would definitely rule.
