  • Bebe Rexha opens up about the importance of Turkish coffee in her culture—and how she started drinking it at just 11 years old.
  • The ratio for her ultimate Turkish coffee is always 2 coffees to 1 sugar.
  • She calls feeding people her “love language” and says everyone gets a meal if they stay at her house past the two-hour mark.

Bebe Rexha takes her coffee very seriously—and you probably won’t find her ordering it at your local Starbucks. During the latest episode of SNACKS!, the Albanian-American songstress opened up about her caffeine obsession, which started when she was just a child. Yes, really.

“We [drink Turkish coffee] all day,” Rexha tells Delish Editorial Director Joanna Saltz. “Like if somebody’s over at seven, we’ll drink it. It doesn’t matter what time it is—coffee is just part of the day.”

“I started drinking coffee when I was 11. It was normal,” she continues. “In my culture, it’s not weird—it’s just something you grow up with.”

And 25 years later…nothing’s changed. Coffee is still a go-to for Rexha—as long as it’s prepared properly. The Turkish method requires a little more effort than your typical drip coffee.

“You have to be patient. It’s not like regular coffee, where you just press a button. It takes time, and that’s kind of the whole point,” she explains. “When you make a good Turkish coffee, it should be foamy on top. That’s how you know you did it right.”

And the coffee-to-sugar ratio is just as exact: “Two coffee, one sugar,” she adds. “That’s just how we do it—it’s like the standard.”

Despite her passion for the bevvy, she serves up much more than a mug when her guests come over. “My love language is feeding people. When you come over, you’re not just getting coffee—you’re getting food, you’re getting everything. That’s just how I was raised,” Rexha says.

Even when she’s in the studio, Rexha orders food for everyone. When guests come over to her house, Ferrero Rocher chocolate is always served.

“If you pass the two-hour mark, or you’re there for an hour and 30 minutes, we have to feed you a full meal,” she adds. Naturally, it’s followed by coffee—Turkish or regular. Guest’s choice!
