If you’ve already started stocking up on spring candy, you may want to check the label before you tear into anything ladybug-shaped.
Lidl US is recalling its Favorina Chocolate Ladybugs – German-Style Nougat after discovering that the candy contains hazelnuts not properly declared on the packaging. For people with hazelnut allergies, the FDA says eating the product could cause a serious or even life-threatening allergic reaction.
The recalled candy was sold in 3.52-ounce boxes marked with UPC 20304492. According to the FDA notice, it was distributed to Lidl locations in Delaware, Washington, D.C., Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia between January 28 and March 11, 2026.
The issue was traced to a labeling error. Lidl said the chocolates containing tree nuts were sold in packaging that did not reveal the presence of hazelnuts, and as of the recall announcement, no illnesses had been reported.
“Lidl US regrets any inconvenience related to this voluntary recall,” the company said in the announcement. “Our Quality Assurance Department is constantly working to ensure that all products on our shelves meet the high-quality standards that we would expect when feeding our own families. We are grateful for all our Lidl US customers who choose to shop with us every day.”
If you bought the product and have a hazelnut allergy, the FDA says do not eat it. Customers can return the candy to their nearest Lidl store for a full refund, and the company says a receipt is not required.
