- Costco’s food court has replaced its seasonal mint-chocolate sundae with a new caramel churro version.
- The new dessert comes with your choice of soft serve, plus salted caramel sauce and mini churro bites.
- While some members are into it, many are still mourning the loss of Costco’s full-size churro and aren’t exactly ready to move on.
Do you remember where you were when you learned that Costco stopped selling its beloved food court churro? Because I do. While it may have been replaced by the delicious and deeply meme-able double-chunk chocolate cookie, nothing has fully filled that cinnamon-sugar-shaped hole.
Costco is clearly trying to change that with its newest limited-edition sundae, though whether it’ll win members over is unclear.
The seasonal mint-chocolate sundae has officially been replaced by the caramel churro sundae. It starts with your choice of soft serve—vanilla, chocolate, or swirl—and gets topped with salted caramel sauce and miniature churro bites.
Some members online celebrated the news. One Instagram user wrote, “WAIT A MINUTE. That looks fire!!!”
But the overwhelming consensus was much less enthusiastic. For many Costco shoppers, this new sundae only seems to rub salt in the wound left by the discounted churro. “Doing everything but bringing back the churros,” one Instagram user wrote.
Others took the opportunity to throw a little extra shade at Costco’s habit of killing off fan-favorite food court items. One member asked, “What’s next, combo pizza bites?”
Commenters also complained about how quickly the mint-chocolate sundae was phased out in favor of the caramel churro sundae. “Waaiiiiitttt I haven’t even tried the mint one yet,” one Instagram user wrote. Another added, “Please don’t get rid of the mint, I’m hooked on them.”
Unfortunately, being a Costco member means saying goodbye to something you love regularly. But on the bright side, it also means there’s usually something new to try. Costco giveth, and Costco taketh away.
