- Bader Enterprises Inc recalled Premium Food Jordan Almonds due to undeclared wheat and undeclared certified color additives.
- The labeling error poses a serious health risk to those with wheat allergies or sensitivities.
- The affected almonds were distributed in New York and New Jersey.
A beloved Easter candy has been recalled in two states due to multiple labeling issues. Bader Enterprises Inc. voluntarily recalled its Premium Food Jordan Almonds because they contained undeclared wheat and certified color additives. The product’s additives include FD&C Blue 2 Lake and FD&C Blue 1 Lake, which must be approved for use and listed on ingredient labels under federal law. Furthermore, since wheat is a top allergen, it’s imperative to disclose that information on the labeling, as well.
The affected products were sold in two-ounce and 3.5-ounce clear flexible plastic packaging with the UPC codes 015750199171 and 015750299215, along with a best-by date of December 2028. According to the recall notice, 60 pounds worth of product is affected.
The FDA classified this as a Class II recall, meaning that consumers may experience temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects. The affected almonds were distributed throughout New Jersey and New York.
While these almonds will likely be fine for most of the general public who don’t have any wheat allergies or sensitivities, the lack of disclosure on color additives could be a deterrent for many. You might want to double-check your stash of Easter basket goodies before the holiday.
