  • Teachers and healthcare workers can enter through their respective appreciation microsites through May 12.
  • Verified winners will start being notified on May 13.

Teachers deserve the world. My seventh-grade English teacher, Ms. Pawson, is honestly probably one of the reasons I am writing for a living right now. And while a free meal may not fully cover the emotional labor of shaping young minds, it is at least a very solid place to start.

Chipotle is once again doing its annual appreciation giveaway for teachers and healthcare workers, and this year the chain says it plans to hand out up to 200,000 free entree e-gift cards. The whole effort amounts to as much as $2 million in free Chipotle.

To get in on it, teachers can enter through teacherthanks.chipotle.com, while healthcare workers can head to healthcarethanks.chipotle.com with the entry window running through May 12. After that, selected entrants will be asked to verify their employment status through ID.me, and anyone who clears that step within 48 hours will get a free entree e-gift card. Chipotle says winner notifications will begin going out on May 13.

The chain has been doing this for a while now, and apparently, the appetite is only growing. According to Chipotle, last year’s giveaway drew its biggest response yet, and the company says it’s given away more than $16 million in free food to teachers and healthcare professionals since 2016.

During National Nurses Week (May 6–12), customers ordering through the Chipotle app or website can round their total up to the next dollar through the company’s Round-Up for Real Change program, with donations going to the American Nurses Foundation. Later this year, the same opportunity will circle round in support of the Kids In Need Foundation through Round-Up for Real Change, with funding going toward classroom supply donations for teachers and students in underserved schools.

We can all agree on raises, respect, and probably a mandatory nap for everyone saving lives and shaping young minds. But for now, a free burrito bowl is at least a start.
