Calling all parents! Your kids’ favorite chicken nuggets may need to go back into extinction after this latest public health alert. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has notified the public that Great Value Fully Cooked Dino Shaped Chicken Breast Nuggets may contain unsafe levels of lead. Although no recall was requested because the product is no longer on store shelves, consumers may still have the affected nuggets in their freezers.
The nuggets, which were shipped to Walmart stores nationwide, were produced on February 10, 2026, and have a best-by date of February 10, 2027. According to the FSIS, the issue was discovered through routine surveillance sampling conducted by a state partner. The agency is still investigating the contamination.
The affected nuggets were sold in 29-ounce plastic bags containing about 36 nuggets each. Shoppers can identify the impacted product by looking for lot code 0416DPO1215 and establishment number P44164 on the packaging.
Consumers who purchased the affected product are being urged not to eat it. Instead, the nuggets should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase. Lead exposure can be especially dangerous for young children, infants, and pregnant women, making this alert particularly concerning for families who keep quick freezer meals like these on hand.
So while these dino nuggets may have once been a weeknight lifesaver, this is one case where they definitely don’t belong anywhere near the dinner table.
