I Tried McDonald’s New ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Menu—Here’s My Honest Review

KPop Demon Hunters fans nearly lost their minds when McDonald’s announced its new limited-time menu based on the movie. And starting today, locations nationwide are serving two unique meals—inspired by HUNTR/X and the Saja Boys, respectively—and a brand-new McFlurry.

I got my hands on the HUNTR/X meal and Derpy McFlurry to try it all for myself. Here’s my review.

The foundation of the HUNTR/X meal is a 10-piece order of McNuggets, but the real stars are the two special sauces. The first is Hunter Sauce, which tastes like a riff on a classic sweet-and-sour sauce. It’s bright, sticky, and sweet—but the pepper flavors are pretty muted.

The second, Demon Sauce, went viral when it was first announced because of its bright purple hue. But once you look past the color, you get a creamy, well-rounded condiment that has subtle hints of mustard. I enjoyed them both on their own, but I think they’re even better together.

The McNuggets are accompanied by McShaker fries with instant ramyeon-style seasoning. This is one of the few occasions where it’s okay to play with your food. You add a standard order of McDonald’s fries to the included paper bag, sprinkle the ramyeon seasoning inside, and shake to evenly coat each fry.

The result is a deep, savory flavor with a hint of sweetness and flecks of sesame seeds and herbs. I recommend starting with a portion of the seasoning packet, then adding more to taste. The flavors can get pretty intense, but you can easily wash them down with the soft drink included in the meal.

Another addition to the KPop Demon Hunters menu is a McFlurry inspired by Derpy Tiger. It starts with McDonald’s vanilla soft serve, a swirl of wild berry sauce, and berry-flavored popping pearls.

Let’s be real: It’s hard to mess up a McFlurry. And this limited-edition flavor is no exception. The soft serve slightly overshadows the berry flavor (I wish there was more of it!), but the popping pearls are by far my favorite part. They add an exciting texture to each bite that keeps this McFlurry interesting.

My thoughts on the last menu item, the Saja Boys Breakfast Meal, are coming soon. But I already know that this special menu is definitely worth trying, whether you’ve watched KPop Demon Hunters or not.
