  • Hudsonville’s new Dirt Cake ice cream includes gummy worms that some shoppers think look a little too lifelike.
  • On social media, some people said the worms looked like real worms, while others thought they resembled human flesh.
  • The unusual appearance has sparked a wave of jokes, including plenty of NSFW comparisons.

I’m all for gummy worms in my ice cream, but the caveat is that they have to look like actual gummy worms. You know: bright neon colors, classic ridges, maybe even a little crystallized sugar on the outside. If there’s any chance I might mistake a gummy worm for an actual worm, chances are I’m not going to be double spooning.

A brand-new ice cream flavor by Hudsonville just hit freezer shelves, and while reviews say the new Dirt Cake flavor is delicious—the gummy worms actually stay soft and chewy—people on social media were quick to question the appearance of those worms.

Despite the container depicting classic, colorful gummy worms, photos of some of the worms in the ice cream looked a little lifelike for some folks. “I thought you had an actual worm, grossed myself out for a sec 😂,” one person commented. “I don’t like how realistic that looks,” another said.

“Concerning color choice,” one person wrote. “Hey, so I hate that,” another added.

While many people thought the worms looked too realistic, others were more concerned that they resembled certain human appendages too closely. “Thank god I read the caption…I thought someone lost a finger 😂,” one person commented. “Looks like a toe,” wrote another.

And while those were some of the more PG comments, other commenters thought the worms looked a little more NSFW. “Everything reminds me of him,” one person joked. “I feel like they could have gone with a different color for the worm- now this ice cream just reminds me of my ex,” another wrote.

“They caught me with my pants down,” another fan teased.

Jokes aside, one customer came to the ice cream’s defense, worms and all: “I hate whoever took these pictures because they looked totally different in mine. They’re super small & cute. Very tasty too.”

As they say, all press is good press. And honestly, I wouldn’t be shocked if this ice cream sells like hot cakes.
