Right as grilling season is on the horizon, there’s a major recall that warrants an inspection of your kitchen utensil drawer.
More than 10.2 million Nexgrill metal wire grill brushes have been recalled nationwide due to a pretty serious safety risk. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the issue comes down to the bristles themselves.
Small metal wires can break off during use, stick to your grill, and end up in your food—which is exactly as bad as it sounds. If swallowed, those bristles can cause internal injuries and may even require medical attention or surgery. In fact, there have already been at least 68 reports of bristles detaching, including five cases where people required medical treatment after ingesting them.
The recall impacts several Nexgrill brush models sold at Home Depot and online between 2015 and 2026, typically priced between $5 and $15. These are the classic long-handled grill brushes you probably already own or have used at some point.
So what should you do?
If you own one of the affected brushes, the guidance is simple: stop using it immediately. Nexgrill is offering refunds in the form of gift cards, but you’ll need to register through the brand’s recall process and submit a photo of the product before properly disposing of it.
This also isn’t the first time this type of grilling tool has come under fire. Wire brushes have been flagged before for similar risks, which makes this recall feel less like a surprise and more like a reminder.
Bottom line: before you fire up the grill this weekend, it might be worth double-checking what you’re using to clean it.
