  • McDonald’s offers a Basket of Fries, the equivalent of two medium fries, in select cities nationwide.
  • The Basket is a shareable side that can offer a better value than a large fry, depending on location.
  • It’s not widely known as a menu item because it’s only available regionally.

There are probably plenty of things you don’t know about McDonald’s—like the fact that McNuggets come in four different shapes, or that the chain once sold peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. But while you’ve likely already clocked that the Coke tastes better there (it just does) and that there are plenty of secret menu hacks floating around online, here’s another little-known one: You can actually order a whole basket of fries—but there’s a catch.

Delish staff recently spotted the Basket of Fries on a menu board, but according to a McDonald’s spokesperson, it’s a regional item meant for sharing. Pricing varies by location and is set by individual franchisees. Still, when you can find it, it may be one of the better fry deals on the menu.

According to a McDonald’s worker, the Basket of Fries contains about the same amount as two medium fries, or roughly eight ounces. By comparison, the large fry is around six ounces. In many places, a large order of fries costs somewhere between $3.39 and $5.39, depending on location (here in New York City, a large order costs $6.49).

One customer in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, shared that the Basket of Fries cost $4.19 at their location, which was less than the price of a large.

Mashed also reported finding the basket in Nashville, Tennessee, for $3.99, while a large fry there cost $3.69 — making the basket a better value if you want more fries without buying two medium orders. A McDonald’s spokesperson confirmed that the Basket of Fries is a regional offering available in select cities, including Houston, Dallas, Nashville, and St. Louis. It has also been spotted by Delish Editorial Director Joanna Saltz in western Pennsylvania.

Is this elusive basket the chain’s best-kept fry secret? It just might be. At the very least, it might keep me from stealing someone else’s fries after I finish my own.
