We’ve made plenty of delicious desserts this year, from those with a viral backstory like Neiman Marcus Cake and Nordy Bars to impressive twists on classic sweets like the wonderfully decadent Éclair Cake. But when it comes to the most-saved dessert recipe that the Allrecipes community has been coming back to again and again, one specific recipe takes the cake—quite literally.
Heaven on Earth Cake is our most-saved recipe of 2025. With over 13,000 saves, it quietly gained momentum over the course of the year, but especially in the summertime—probably because it’s a no-bake cake, which makes for easy-prepping on sticky-hot days. Since then, though, it has continued to gather more gleaming reviews—and saves on MyRecipes—to boot.
The Magic of Heaven on Earth Cake

The heart of this recipe is its simplicity, where each ingredient has a job: Cherry pie filling soaks into soft and pillowy angel food cake, while sour cream provides a hint of tang to the sweet, creamy pudding layer. Whipped topping seals it all in for a cloud-like effect at first-bite.
And much like a trifle that’s made up of different components, both cake-like and creamy, this dessert is endlessly versatile. Here’s what home cooks love about it:
- You can use different types of filling. Ready-made cherry pie filling is the central ingredient. Not a fan of cherries? No problem. To switch up the flavor profile, opt for another flavor like strawberry, blueberry, or even spiced apple filling for a more fall-to-winter-friendly cake.
- Easily swap pudding mix flavors. As it’s written, vanilla pudding mix stabilizes the sweet, creamy layers—and just like the pie filling, you can play with flavor! White chocolate pudding mix or even regular chocolate pudding would be a hit with chocolate lovers. Various pudding flavors like cheesecake, coconut, or banana cream puddings also lend themselves to this trifle-like dish.
- No-bake, no problem. It’s a no-bake cake, which means that no oven is required to make it. You could, of course, make your own Angel Food Cake, but why go through the trouble when the recipe is already this easy? And if you have leftover crumbly cake on hand (it doesn’t have to be Angel Food Cake), you can use that too!
How to Make the Recipe

- Add first cake layer: In a square baking dish, such as an 8×8 or 9×9-inch dish, place half of the cubed Angel Food Cake in an even layer (it’s okay if it’s crumbly).
- Add pie filling and second cake layer: Spread cherry pie filling over the first cake layer, then add the remaining pieces of Angel Food Cake.
- Prepare the pudding mixture. Stir together pudding mix, heavy cream, and sour cream until mixture is smooth. Let it sit to thicken slightly.
- Add pudding layer. Spread the thickened pudding mixture over the second layer of cake.
- Add whipped topping. Spread whipped topping over the top, and decorate the top with remaining cherry pie filling. Garnish with toasted sliced nuts, if you’d like! Refrigerate the dish uncovered to let the flavors meld and set overnight, about 8 hours.
Praise From the Allrecipes Community
Home cooks have made this recipe multiple times in a week, trying out different fruit fillings, pudding flavors, and experimenting with ratios of whipped toppings. No matter how you make it, this recipe is clearly a keeper—and with over 13,000 saves on MyRecipes, it’s certainly worth having on deck.
- “The first time my MIL had it, she raved about it and asked me to make it for her 97th birthday,” says Allrecipes member gretchykin. “She asked that I make hers with raspberries instead of cherries. It was difficult to find raspberry pie filling but I finally found it on line. I did add fresh berries to the filling and the top. Excellent! I doubled everything except the whipped topping. It was loved by all!”
- Other users have been more direct about their love for this recipe. “This is so outrageously delicious it should be illegal,” says reviewer Tom K.
- But don’t take his word for it alone—plenty of home cooks have gone on to share the recipe with friends and family, too. “This is delicious, everyone loves it. I have made four in the last week. I made two of them to share with all of my wonderful neighbors,” says TrustyBrew9709 It is a hit with everyone. I have passed the recipe on to family and friends.”
