Why This is a Million Dollar Recipe is Such a Hit

There’s no need to take out a loan to make this for dinner. In fact, part of the appeal of this chicken casserole is that it uses affordable spice cabinet and pantry staples, along with a trio of dairy aisle MVPs, and your choice of leftover or rotisserie chicken.  The “Million Dollar” moniker doesn’t refer to the price tag to make this weeknight-friendly dinner. Instead, it hints at the fact that the results are rich. The creamy, savory creation is “so good, it’s hard to stop eating,” according to Allrecipes senior editor Corey Williams.

In tandem with sour cream and cream cheese, cottage cheese is the trick to scoring such a luxurious consistency in this one-pan recipe, Williams adds. Atop that savory, well-seasoned filling? Ooey-gooey melted mozzarella cheese and crunchy butter crackers, both of which introduce welcome textural contrast.

Besides the flavor and the quick prep time (Invest 10 minutes to build it, and 35 minutes later, you’ll have 10 hearty servings ready to share), Allrecipes team members and fans adore the versatility of this recipe. How To Make Million Dollar Chicken Casserole

But first, let’s review how to make our most-saved casserole recipe as written:

In a bowl, mix together cream of chicken soup, cottage cheese, sour cream, cream cheese, Creole seasoning, onion powder, and garlic powder. Once smooth and blended, fold in shredded rotisserie chicken and chopped fresh parsley. In another bowl, toss together crushed buttery round crackers, melted butter, and garlic powder.

Transfer the chicken mixture into a 11 x 7-inch or 9-inch square baking dish, then sprinkle the top with shredded mozzarella. Finish with the cracker mixture and bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 35 minutes, or until the crackers are golden and the chicken casserole is bubbling around the edges. Garnish with sliced scallions, if you like.

Tips From The Allrecipes Community

Our Million Dollar Chicken Casserole recipe isn’t just saved a lot. It’s also savored and celebrated—earning more than 150 five-star reviews since we published it in June 2025. If you’re feeling inspired to join folks like Angela Dixon, who can claim, “the family literally cleaned the casserole dish empty,” here are a few pointers on how to spiff up, serve, and store it.

  • Veg out. To sneak in more nutrition, color, and texture, feel free to fold in frozen peas or lightly steamed broccoli or cauliflower when you add the chicken.
  • Take things over the top. Don’t feel handcuffed to mozzarella. Any of your favorite cheeses, such as shredded cheddar or Swiss, would be lovely here. As for the crunchy component, we tested this with Ritz. Rectangular butter crackers (Club) or oval-shaped butter crackers (Town House) work equally well. Or swap in crushed cornflakes and crumbled pork rinds.
  • Select some sides. Round out the meal with a side salad and cooked noodles, rice, potatoes, or warm bread.
  • Put it on ice. If you’d like to get a head start, assemble two Million Dollar Chicken Casseroles today. Bake one for dinner, and freeze the other (cover in plastic wrap and foil) for up to four months. When you’re ready to enjoy round two, thaw the casserole overnight or up to six hours in the refrigerator, then bake according to the original directions.
