- Trader Joe’s mini tote frenzy is still going strong, with fresh drops and resale listings keeping the hype alive.
- There have been multiple tote-related waves this year, including pastel rumors, restock chatter, and the lavender release.
- Some resale listings are still asking eye-popping prices, including one current eBay listing for $100,000.
Trader Joe’s has done it again. What started as a cute little grocery-store tote situation has fully turned into an annual spectacle, and at this point, the bags are less of an errand accessory and more of a high-stakes Hunger Games event the second they drop.
Last year, the chain’s mini totes sent shoppers into a full scramble. This year, that energy has not only stuck around but somehow gotten even more locked in. Between the pastel mini tote rumors, the March restock buzz, and the latest lavender bag drop, Trader Joe’s tote culture has officially become its own genre of mess. The bag madness ranges from shoppers mentally lining up over rumored releases to actual store frenzies over limited tote drops.
In the past, a member of the Delish team had witnessed a line outside TJ’s, presumably for the totes. Another said they weren’t even on display at the location she went to last year, but at a counter manned by four employees. There’s obviously a market for this tiny tote, which TJ’s says can be used for anything from “smaller shopping trips” to “great gift bags.” And with the demand exceeding supply at some stores, it makes sense they’re being resold online.
In the original wave of mini tote mania, eBay listings shot into absurd territory, including seven-figure joke listings. And wouldn’t you know, the resale circus is still very much alive.
One current eBay listing has a blue Trader Joe’s mini tote priced at $2,000, which is still an objectively ridiculous amount of money to spend on a grocery bag that originally cost just a few bucks. Others surpass that amount, with one found via search reaching as high as $100,000 for a single black mini tote.
And yet, none of this feels especially shocking anymore. Trader Joe’s bags are no longer just reusable totes. They’re more collectible objects, status-y little seasonal trophies, and for some shoppers, apparently a side hustle.
