Little Caesars Launches Drone Delivery For Pizza Orders

  • Little Caesars has partnered with Flytrex to launch drone delivery using a new heavier-lift drone.
  • The service can deliver a full family meal, including two large pizzas and drinks, in one trip.
  • The first active location is in Wylie, Texas, with more expansion expected to follow.

Last August, Chipotle tested drone delivery and it was one thing to imagine chips and guac descending from the sky like a beautiful, salty miracle. But whole pizzas? Soda too?

Little Caesars is now getting in on drone delivery through a new partnership with Flytrex, and the companies say this new setup can deliver an actual family meal, including two large pizzas and drinks, in a single flight.

That is apparently possible thanks to Flytrex’s new Sky2 drone, which was built to carry heavier food orders than the average delivery drone, not just one sad little meal for one person who forgot to grocery shop.

The first Little Caesars location using the service is now live in Wylie, Texas, where customers ordering through the Flytrex app can have their order sent through the chain’s existing system and then, yes, flown to them. According to Flytrex, the drone can travel up to four miles, and the average trip from takeoff to delivery takes about 4.5 minutes, which is extremely fast by normal food-delivery standards.

Flytrex says the Sky2 can also carry up to 8.8 pounds, which lets it transport things like two 16-inch pizzas, drinks, and sides in one go.

While the logistics of flying hot food through the sky still feel a little ridiculous on paper, there’s something deeply compelling about not having to wonder whether your delivery driver got stuck in traffic, made an unscheduled stop, or quietly gave your soda a dangerous tilt.

Of course, the real test is not whether a drone candeliver pizza. It is whether people actually want their dinner lowered from above on a regular basis. But if there is any food designed for a futuristic handoff, it is probably something flat, boxed, and already associated with arriving on time.
