Kellogg’s is officially bringing back one of the most nostalgic parts of childhood breakfast, and people are already losing it.
For the first time in over a decade, the brand is putting toys back inside cereal boxes as part of a new collaboration with Toy Story 5, which hits theaters June 19. The limited-edition boxes start rolling out nationwide on April 26, and the whole idea is simple: Bring back that moment of digging through your cereal for something fun.
Kellogg’s is leaning into the nostalgia factor here, and based on early reactions, it’s working.
One comment summed it up perfectly: “Raise your hand if you’re going for the you before your kid does.”
The timing also lines up with what Toy Story 5 is about. The film focuses on toys competing with screens for attention, which makes this feel like more than just a throwback. It’s also a reminder of a kind of play that doesn’t involve a phone or tablet.
Fans are clearly here for it. “So nostalgic lol,” one person wrote, while another added, “Nature is healing,” which is slightly dramatic but not entirely wrong.
At the same time, people are already predicting exactly how this is going to go in stores. “Now you bouta start seeing all the boxes opened at stores bc people are gonna want certain ones,” one comment reads. It’s a fair point, but not something I think we should be worried about. If there was something rare or a blind box situation, that would be a different story.
Others are treating this like a full-on competition. “Now I gotta fight my husband over who eats it, him or me!” One person joked, adding that “’80s babies were serious about that damn toy.”
Beyond the boxes themselves, Kellogg’s is also turning this into an experience. The brand is bringing a giant Toy Story–themed claw machine to The Grove in Los Angeles in May, giving fans a chance to experience that same prize-winning feeling in person.
