I can’t say bourbon is my go-to liquor. A terrible college experience made sure of that, and I fear the damage may be permanent. But give me that flavor mixed with maple bacon, and suddenly I’m much more open-minded. I also just had a maple-bourbon situation at Burger King not that long ago, so maybe the universe is trying to tell me something.
Oscar Mayer just launched its first new bacon variety in five years: Maple Bourbon Bacon.
The new release is made with Evan Williams Bourbon and combines thick-cut bacon with a sweet, smoky maple profile and a bourbon-inspired finish. According to the brand, the bacon is also slow-smoked for 12 hours, with notes like vanilla and caramel meant to round the whole thing out.
“While we have been crafting delicious bacon for 90 years, Maple Bourbon Bacon is an exciting new chapter for our bacon portfolio and shows consumers that we are thinking about bacon differently,” said Anna James, Brand Manager for Oscar Mayer. “With the bacon category growing and accounting for one-third of our business, we are leaning into bold, trend-driven flavors our fans want, bringing new energy to a beloved breakfast classic.”
And based on the reaction online, people are fully on board.
“The BLT’s are gonna be unbelievable,” one person wrote, which honestly feels like a pretty compelling case right out of the gate. Another said, “WHOA WHOA WHOA!!! I need this on my breakfast menu!” while someone else is eager to purchase “several packs” at their local grocer.
The company is pitching the new flavor as something that works across breakfast, sandwiches, and even cocktails. Oscar Mayer also says this kicks off a broader bacon push, with more flavor launches expected in the future. So Maple Bourbon Bacon may be the first in a bigger run of limited-edition swings.
For now, though, this is the one heading to grocery stores nationwide. And for anyone who likes their breakfast a little sweet, a little smoky, and maybe a little extra, it sounds like Oscar Mayer knew exactly what it was doing.
