Times, they are a’changing. This year, fast-food chains seem to be honing in on customer feedback and implementing fan requests in real time. Just last month, Burger King announced tweaks to its signature Whopper, while McDonald’s finally brought an international favorite to its menus in the States. Now, it’s Wendy’s turn to dial up its menu offerings.
The chain has revamped its beloved Spicy Chicken Sandwich based on customer feedback and consumer testing. What can fans expect from the new and improved sandwich? An all-new marinade, crispy panko-style breading infused with nine different spices, pickles, and a sweet potato bread bun smothered in homestyle mayo.
I’m happy to report that Wendy’s really delivers with all its upgrades. The new breading on the chicken provides the ultimate crunch—maintaining a perfectly crispy exterior even through delivery. The balance between the crunch of the chicken and the softness of the bun works really well together, giving your mouth a world of textures to enjoy. The spice is apparent, but not overwhelming. It won’t set your mouth on fire, but it’s not hiding either. This really allows all of the flavors of the sandwich to shine through—pickles included.
And speaking of, the addition of pickles to the sandwich is really a no-brainer—after all, brine is the flavor of the moment. This feels like an elevated fast-food sandwich, and one that I’ll definitely order up again.
Best of all, you can enjoy the new and improved sandwich as part of Wendy’s Spicy Chicken Sandwich Combo meal, which includes the handheld, your choice of beverage, and an order of fries. This is going to be dangerous.
