Since then, the flavor profile has worked its way into everything from the McDonald’s breakfast menu to Jolly Rancher gummies and French’s mustard.
Now, BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse is throwing its hat into the swicy ring in an unexpected way. The chain is rolling out a brand-new flavor of its signature dessert: the Sweet Heat Pepperoni Pizookie.
The treat starts with a warm Chocolate Chunk Pizookie and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. From there, things begin to go off the rails. It’s topped with crispy cup-and-char pepperoni and finished with a generous drizzle of Mike’s Hot Honey.
And if you’re asking yourself, “Wait, Am I being pranked?” The answer is yes—kind of. The Sweet Heat Pepperoni Pizookie is a real menu item, but it’s only available for one day, on April Fool’s Day, at all BJ’s locations for $4.01. So unlike a lot of corporate April Fool’s Day stunts, this one is 100 percent real.
This also isn’t the first time BJ’s has infused savory flavors into its Pizookie. In 2024, the chain sold the Pizickle Pizookie, which came topped with a mountain of dill pickle slices.
The following year, BJ’s upped the ante with a Fryckle Pizookie—yes, fried pickles—in partnership with Snooki. It also launched an all-savory Broccoli Cheddar version topped with scoops of mashed potatoes and a beer-infused cheddar cheese sauce.
This pizza-inspired Pizookie feels like a natural next step. The dessert’s name has always been inspired by pizza, after all. And BJ’s relaunched its deep-dish pizza late last year with a brand-new crust recipe that draws the best from three regional pizza styles. According to the chain, it helped inspire this year’s April Fool’s Day flavor.
Given the success of prior promotions, the launch of the Sweet Heat Pepperoni Pizookie should be popular—if not for the taste, then just for the shock factor alone.
