- Customers can stop by participating Scoop Shops to get one free scoop of any flavor all day long.
- The tradition started back in 1979 and is now celebrated in countries around the world.
Fill up that tank with gas, mark your calendar, and get ready for the one and only Free Cone Day at Ben & Jerry’s. The fun (and tasty) event is returning this year on Tuesday, April 14, where Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shops will be serving up free scoops all day long to loyal customers around the world.
The tradition dates back to 1979, when Free Cone Day began as a way to thank local customers. More than 45 years later, Ben & Jerry’s is still keeping it going, with Scoop Shops in 13 countries now taking part in the annual giveaway.
The unofficial holiday lets customers stop by and get one free scoop of any flavor, which is already a pretty great deal for simply existing. But this year, the company is aiming even higher than usual with much loftier goals. Back in 2015, Ben & Jerry’s set a Free Cone Day record by giving away one million scoops, and this time, they’re looking to hand out at least one million and one.
So yes, getting in line for free ice cream is fun. But technically, you’re also helping Ben & Jerry’s hit a milestone. Generous of you, really.
