  • The new Whopper boasts an updated bun and better mayo.

Burger King is really going full steam ahead on making headlines this year. From its new Breakfast Whopper to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles meal to publishing its president’s phone number, the popular fast food chain is no stranger to keeping up with the times. And now, Burger King has announced the first changes to its signature Whopper in nearly 10 years.

While the average burger lover likely won’t be able to clock these subtle changes, Delish’s resident Burger King groupie, Test Kitchen Manager Alejandro Valdes Lora, was able to taste a difference. According to the chain, it made these changes based on customer feedback, staying true to its recipe while elevating some of its key components.

First off, the Whopper now comes in a box to ensure your burger arrives intact and is easier to transport. Plus, the burger now features a “more premium bun,” which was what Lora first noticed. He noted that it feels more substantial and less prone to sogginess than the previous version. Lastly, the burger still comes with freshly cut onions, tomatoes, lettuce, and pickles on top, but is enhanced by a higher-quality mayonnaise.

The new and improved Whopper comes during a time when Burger King is honing in on consumer feedback and reflecting requests back into its menu. We’ll see how customers react.
