During Costco’s Q1 fiscal 2026 earnings call, CEO Ron Vachris discussed a new app update coming in 2026 that will let customers order cakes digitally, so you can submit a custom cake request without physically trekking to the warehouse to fill out the paper form. Vachris specifically cited member feedback as the reason for the shift. “Many of the things that we’ve heard from our members that could be a little bit clunky are now moving to a digital state,” he said, “and we’re seeing great adoption right out of the chute.”
And if you’ve ever had to visit Costco twice for one cake—once to place the order, once to pick it up—you already get why this is a big deal. The internet seems to agree.
