Serious question for you: are you more of a jelly donut person or a sucker for powdered sugar? Me, I love a chocolate glaze, but really, can you go wrong when it comes to donuts? I vote no. After all, some iteration of the donut has been around longer than you might imagine. According to Smithsonian Magazine, “doughnuts in some form or other have been around so long that archaeologists keep turning up fossilized bits of what look like doughnuts in the middens of prehistoric Native American settlements.” We’ve been loving on fried dough for a long, long time.
So it shouldn’t come entirely as a shock that we have a holiday dedicated to celebrating (and enjoying) the beloved donut. National Donut Day traditionally falls on the first Friday of June, which is June 6 this year. The holiday dates all the way back to 1938, when it was first created by The Salvation Army in order to honor service workers who served donuts to soldiers during World War I. I truly learn something new every day. I had no idea the sweetest of food holidays had such heartwarming origins.
If all this chat about donuts has you drooling, I don’t blame you. Luckily, donut shops and cafés across the country are counting on your hunger and are frying up some delicious deals for you to grab this year. Here’s where you can score free and cheap donuts today, and throughout the month!
Shipley Do-Nuts
Hit up your local store to snag a free Shipley signature glazed donut with any purchase all day long. When ordering online or through the loyalty app, simply use the code DonutDay2025.
But that’s not all! The chain is celebrating the momentous occasion every Friday all month long. On June 13, instead of a dozen donuts, you’ll get a baker’s dozen to celebrate Friday the 13th in style, or opt for a free glazed donut with any purchase. On June 20, customers can get a classic glazed donut with any purchase, and finally, on June 27, you can also score a free glazed at Shipley locations.
7-Eleven
For one day only, both 7Rewards and Speedy Rewards members can enjoy a classic glazed donut for just 50 cents at all participating 7-Eleven, Speedway, and Stripes locations. However, if you miss the deal, you can enjoy a glazed donut through June 24 for just a dollar.
Dunkin’
Dunkin’ is bringing out the big guns this year to celebrate National Donut Day. Not only is the chain offering a free classic donut with the purchase of any beverage, but it will also launch a limited-edition Stoney Clover Lane collection beginning at 10 a.m. The collection features a sweet double-sized donut pouch, four Dunkin’-inspired collectible patches, two bag charms, acrylic and stainless-steel tumblers, straw toppers, and cup sleeves. Plus, select locations will also be serving donuts in custom-designed mini donut bags just for the holiday.
Honey Dew Donut
On June 6, all Honey Dew Donut locations are offering a free donut with the purchase of any medium beverage.
Keurig
To celebrate the momentous holiday, “the original donut shop coffee” is offering customers a jaw-dropping deal: 50% off all coffee and K-Cup Pod products on their website between June 6 and 8. You can snag the deal by using the code DONUT50.
Paris Baguette
Any member of the PB Rewards program can celebrate National Donut Day at their local café by earning a free sugar mochi or small twist donut with any purchase on June 6.
Krispy Kreme
Krispy Kreme is doing it up for National Donut Day this year by launching 14 Days of Original Glazed on June 6. Beginning on the actual holiday, customers can head to a local participating shop and buy a dozen Original Glazed donuts for just $2 after purchasing a dozen of their choice. If that’s too many donuts for ya, you can simply head in for a free donut without purchasing anything.
If you can’t make it to a store on the 6th, stop by the following day, where rewards members can purchase a dozen Original Glazed for $9.99. Beginning June 13, a new promo begins, where customers who buy a dozen donuts can receive a dozen Original Glazed for 13 cents.
Lidl
The grocery chain is giving away a free glazed donut with any purchase on June 6 through the store’s MyLidl app.
