A person’s food preferences can tell you a lot about their personality. Someone who loves caviar might be drawn to the finer things in life, while a meat and potato lover might be a bit more laid back. (If a person tells me they don’t like pizza then they’re a straight-up psychopath in my eyes.) The food you enjoy is super personal and the foods you enjoy the most can cause even the calmest of us to break out into fights. For example, I’ll die on the hill that Baked Lay’s are better than the original, but I know that might be a bit of a hot take. When it comes to really getting to know someone, I’ll often ask them what they’d choose as their last meal, given the chance. The answers are telling.
Choice Mutual must think along the same lines because it recently conducted a survey across every state to determine what food and drinks residents would ask for as their last meal. The company then analyzed the data and grouped similar foods into categories to identify trends, and determined the top last meal requests in each state. And let me tell ya, we Americans knocked it out of the park. Here are the top 10 answers across the country:
- Steak
- Potatoes
- Pasta/Noodles
- Pizza
- Vegetables
- Bread
- Lobster
- Fries
- Mac and Cheese
- Lobster
Americans were also surveyed regarding what drink would accompany their last meal, and I’ll be honest, I’m a little surprised at the ranking. Coming in first is soda, followed by wine, water, tea, and beer, respectively. The fact that these knocked coffee, cocktails, and hard liquor out of the top five is mind-blowing if you ask me. If I knew I was about to go, I’d need a stiff one, stat.
So what do you think—are you aligned with the top picks or is your favorite food and beverage pairing missing from the list?
