Oscar Mayer can really do no wrong. Always one to set trends, the packaged meat company famous for its hot dogs is leaning in to its winning wieners by introducing the inaugural Wienie 500–a whole new kind of car race. Today at 2pm ET, six wienermobiles will go toe to toe (or more accurately, bun to bun) in a race on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway ahead of the upcoming Indy 500.
Each wienermobile is sporting a brand new look and each represents a different regional hot dog: the Chi Dog (Midwest), New York Dog (East), Slaw Dog (Southeast), Sonoran Dog (Southwest), Chili Dog (South), and Seattle Dog (Northwest). The racers themselves will be adorned in custom Hotdogger suits to top off the whole look, with the hopes of winning a condiment-spray trophy.
Ahead of this afternoon’s highly anticipated hot dog face-off, we turned to the Delish audience to see just how popular each region’s hot dog variation truly is. While there seemed to be a dominant support of the chili dog, each region seemed to have its fair share of fans.
“Chi Dog…Go Dog Go,” cheered on one fan.
“Seattle dog all the way,” wrote another.
One indecisive fan commented, “Omg omg omg Sonoran no Chicago no idk.”
“Going to drag these other b****es through the garden. #chicagodog,” one strong-minded fan predicted.
Even some of our favorite food brands got in on the action. Velveeta wrote, “fs gonna be chili dog,” while Claussen Pickles chimed in with, “Chi dog is the only correct answer.”
Heinz showcased where its loyalties lie: “NEW YORK NEW YORK NEW YORK NEW YORK NEW YORK NEW YORK,” it chanted. Kraft Sauces, on the other hand, wrote, “Powered by cream cheese and dreams LET’S GO #SEATTLEDOG.”
The competition is heating up (just like our beloved dawgs), but there can only be one wiener (see what I did there?). Tune in to catch the “ketchup-fueled fun” at 2pm ET today, streaming live on the FOX Sports app, or check out the highlights on Sunday via the FOX Sports Indy 500 pre-show.
