If you have protein goals you’re trying to hit or are just interested in a healthier dessert option, this chocolate mousse is for you. You don’t need any protein powder to help make this a high-protein dessert, only one staple, protein-packed ingredient (that we turn to again and again): cottage cheese. Depending on the brand of cottage cheese you buy, this recipe hits about 30 grams! If the idea of cottage cheese and mousse is freaking you out, don’t stress—the texture is so smooth and fluffy after blending together, you’d never know cottage cheese was hiding in there.
It’s the perfect ending to the day, or a sweet snack to keep in the fridge for a few bites throughout the day (which is exactly what I’ve been doing lately). Serve this for dessert after some spicy cottage cheese pasta for the highest-protein meal you’ve possibly ever had.
You can also make this with Greek yogurt, but note it will be much tangier. I prefer the cottage cheese version, but the yogurt can still hit the spot if you already have some on hand and prefer it over cottage cheese. You can add a little honey to help balance out the tang as well.
Serve this on its own or topped with a dollop of whipped cream and cacao nibs or a few strawberry slices. Store this in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the refrigerator.
