What were once mainstays in family traditions are now often overlooked in favor of independently run restaurants. <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"3\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">You may have grown up celebrating birthdays at Fuddruckers or getting a Friday night treat at McDonald&#8217;s, but people simply aren&#8217;t frequently fast-food chains like they used to. This year alone, formerly popular chains like Long John Silver&#8217;s, Jack in the Box, Red Robin, and even Starbucks have shuttered hundreds of locations nationwide. And now we can add Wendy&#8217;s to that ever-growing list. <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"4\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Wendy&#8217;s Interim CEO Ken Cook announced during the chain&#8217;s quarterly earnings call that roughly 200 to 350 U.S. restaurants will close beginning this year\u20145% of its 6,000 domestic locations. While an exact list was not disclosed, Cook said the targeted restaurants are &#8220;consistently underperforming.&#8221; By closing these locations, he believes nearby Wendy&#8217;s locations will see a boost in sales and profitability.  <\/p>\n<section data-embed=\"watch-next\" data-lazy-id=\"P0-14\" data-node-id=\"5\" class=\"embed\"\/>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"6\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">After a roughly 50% decrease in stock value this year, the company rolled out Project Fresh\u2014described in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irwendys.com\/news\/news-details\/2025\/THE-WENDYS-COMPANY-LAUNCHES-PROJECT-FRESH-A-STRATEGIC-PLAN-TO-DRIVE-GROWTH-AND-ENHANCE-VALUE-CREATION\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.irwendys.com\/news\/news-details\/2025\/THE-WENDYS-COMPANY-LAUNCHES-PROJECT-FRESH-A-STRATEGIC-PLAN-TO-DRIVE-GROWTH-AND-ENHANCE-VALUE-CREATION\/default.aspx\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"a press release\" data-node-id=\"6.1\" class=\"body-link css-1i7jlb0 emevuu60\">a press release<\/a> as a &#8220;comprehensive strategic plan designed to revitalize the brand, reignite growth, accelerate profitability across the Wendy&#8217;s system and enhance shareholder value.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"7\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Wendy&#8217;s plans to revamp their restaurants include optimizing labor and operating hours at franchise locations, focusing capital expenditures more efficiently, investing in processes, technology, and training to enhance customer experience, and revitalizing the brand by employing consultancy Creed UnCo, led by former Taco Bell CEO Greg Creed.  <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"8\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Will it be enough to turn things around for Wendy&#8217;s?
