Earlier this week, Krispy Kreme announced a big change to its menu. It retired three permanent doughnut flavors\u2014Original Glazed Blueberry Cake, Original Glazed Lemon Filled, and Cake Batter\u2014but, in their place, released FIVE new doughnuts that will be available year-round: New York Cheesecake, Oreo Cookies and Kreme, Original Glazed Cake, Cinnamon Apple Filled, and Original Glazed Kreme Filled. <\/p>\n

In addition to the five new menu offerings, the chain also announced four seasonal flavors, which will rotate five times throughout the year. Of course, you’re probably wondering how the new flavors stack up. We did the dirty work so you can make your next doughnut run stress-free. Here are our thoughts on the five new flavors. <\/p>\n

The Original Glazed doughnut is an icon, a legend\u2014she is <\/em>the moment. So why mess with perfection? This doughnut is perfectly fine, with an emphasis on the word ‘fine.’ Compared to the OG, it just doesn’t pass muster. I’d pass on this one in favor of one of the other new flavors. <\/p>\n

Give me the combo of cinnamon and apple, and I’m a happy girl. While this pairing usually screams “fall,” this item is actually available all year long. This doughnut comes unglazed, with an apple-cinnamon filling, and is covered in a powdered cinnamon-flavored coating. The filling here was definitely on the sweeter, stickier side than I typically like, and the coating was just okay. If you’re a fiend for apples, you might just enjoy this one. <\/p>\n

This filled doughnut is stuffed with a cheesecake-flavored Kreme, dipped in vanilla-flavored icing, and topped with graham crunch. It wasn’t really giving cheesecake, but the combination of the creamy filling and the crumbled graham topping delivered good texture and flavor. <\/p>\n

It’s hard to go wrong with cookies and cream, and when you add Oreo to the mix, you’re sure to be impressed. This unglazed doughnut is filled with Oreo Cookies & Kreme, dipped in chocolate icing, sprinkled with Oreo cookie pieces, and drizzled with vanilla-flavored icing. The result gives you that classic cookies-and-cream flavor and enough chocolate to be inviting without overwhelming. <\/p>\n

The star of the show is the Original Glazed Kreme Filled Doughnut, which is simply Krispy Kreme’s OG doughnut filled with a light and airy Kreme. While the team could benefit from properly filling the doughnuts (ours barely had any cream in the middle), when you do finally find the filling, it totally complements the doughnut we already all know and love. It’s almost like whipped cream instead of something heavier and more indulgent, meaning you’re not going overboard by opting for the filled version. <\/p>\n

If there’s one thing Krispy Kreme has truly mastered, it’s their beloved glazed doughnut\u2014and this one just takes it to the next level. <\/p>\n
