She loves her family’s potato casserole recipe but says the holiday can do without turkey and stuffing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
\nThough most Americans gather around the Thanksgiving table each year to scarf down turkey and debate their relatives about anything and everything (Politics! Religion! Cousin Meredith’s life choices!), the actual menu can be controversial\u2014and Brie Larson has thoughts.<\/em><\/p>\nDuring the latest episode of our new podcast SNACKS!<\/em>, The Marvels star opens up to Delish<\/em> Editorial Director Joanna Saltz about her not-so-hot take on the holiday\u2014and what she’d rather be eating instead. “I was proudly against Thanksgiving starting at about 15 years old,” Larson reveals. “I don’t like the food. Some people love it.” <\/p>\n“I personally don’t think the juice is worth the squeeze,” she continues. “I feel like we’re working way too hard for turkey, like to make turkey a thing. Relax!” <\/p>\n\nIt’s not just the prep time. Larson admits that there are plenty of laborious recipes she doesn’t mind spending an entire day cooking. In fact, she says it’s “almost anything” other than turkey.<\/p>\n
So Larson doesn’t celebrate Thanksgiving at all? Not exactly. Her stance on the cuisine just changed the way her family celebrates. “At 15 or 16, I was like I don\u2019t like Thanksgiving and my family was like, *gasp*,” she says. “They didn\u2019t know that was a thing you\u2019re allowed to say.” <\/p>\n
Instead of just eating the traditional meal because it’s, well<\/em>, tradition, Larson says her fam edited the menu to include foods they actually like. Seems like the sorta thing we should all be doing. <\/p>\n“I was like, the ‘potato casserole can stay, the turkey can go. The stuffing can go.’ But basically, over the years, more and more of my family were like, ‘Actually, I don\u2019t like Thanksgiving either. Actually, I don\u2019t really like using the fine china because it\u2019s so much work. Actually, can we all just drop our shoulders a little bit, and what\u2019s everyone\u2019s favorite food, and let\u2019s just make that!’ That\u2019s Thanksgiving,” Larson explains.<\/p>\n
Couldn’t agree more\u2014except for the stuffing part. I will die on the hill that the side dish deserves more hype, and not just in November.<\/p>\n
