\nYou might want to press pause on whipping up a shrimp cocktail or a bowl of scampi because the frozen shrimp in your freezer may be no good. H & N Group Inc. recently recalled<\/a> its Frozen Cooked Medium Peeled & Deveined Shrimp because it may have been manufactured under \u201cinsanitary conditions whereby it may have been contaminated with Cesium-137 (Cs-137).\u201d Cs-137 is a radioactive isotope, and the CDC<\/a> reports that internal exposure through ingestion will expose soft tissue to radiation and increase cancer risk. <\/p>\n
According to the recall, 3,780 units of shrimp are affected and were sold in one-pound retail plastic bags. The shrimp was distributed to around 30 locations along the Gulf Coast and in the greater Houston area. The affected product contains either lot EA14 25118 with a best by date of October 28, 2026, or lot EA14 25119 with a best by date of October 29, 2026, and the UPC code 04120333035. <\/p>\n
The recall was initiated on February 9, but didn\u2019t receive its Class II designation until February 18, 2026. This means that consumption of the product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects. <\/p>\n
