\nI love a good Dunkin’ run as much as the next person who\u2019s ever “just stopped in” for a quick coffee and emerged with a box of a dozen donuts the size of a small country. But in Haverhill, Massachusetts, some residents say they\u2019re getting Dunkin’ whether they asked for it or not\u2014via the air.<\/p>\n
According to a report from CBS Boston<\/a>, neighbors brought their concerns to a December 16 city council meeting<\/a>, saying the smell around a manufacturing plant on Creek Brook Drive has been\u2026 a lot. One resident, Sean Wilson, said<\/a> people walking in the area can feel “overwhelmed” by the donut smell, adding that his house has smelled like donuts “all the time” for the last two months, which he called “distracting” and “heavy.”<\/p>\n
\n The plant in question is owned by Cafua Management Company<\/a> and is described as the largest bakery for Dunkin’ in the U.S. It\u2019s a 93,500-square-foot facility that was built this year and supplies more than 200 Dunkin’ shops run by Cafua. And yes, it’s doing what a giant donut bakery does: <\/p>\n
\n And yes, it’s doing what a giant donut bakery does: A company representative told the council, “We make one million donuts a day,” while also noting the facility has new equipment, is regularly cleaned, and meets regulatory standards.<\/p>\n

For others, it’s the intensity that’s wearing them down. CBS Boston<\/a> reports that a city councilor said another constituent described a “carnival smell” like fried dough\u2014again, yum?\u2014and that some residents are concerned about the air quality near the plant as well.<\/p>\n
Councilors decided to have health inspectors take a look, and they plan to revisit the issue at a January meeting. Until then, Haverhill\u2019s basically living inside a donut-scented candle\u2014whether that sounds delightful or deeply cursed depends on how you feel about being blasted with the scent of sweet, sweet sugar before you’ve even had breakfast.<\/p>\n
