a new NetCredit report<\/a> that set out to answer the question <\/p>\nwe all ask while toggling between three icons: Is DoorDash, Uber Eats, or Grubhub actually cheaper? The answer is annoying, but useful. It depends on where you live. <\/p>\n\nFor its analysis, NetCredit compared menu prices across DoorDash, Grubhub, and Uber Eats in America’s 100 most populous cities plus the five largest cities in each state. Then it priced a fixed list of “popular” items from seven major chains: Subway, McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, KFC, Popeyes, Burger King, and Taco Bell. If a restaurant didn’t have prices for all three items, it was excluded. If a chain didn\u2019t have those items across all three delivery services, it was excluded as well. After that, the team summed the prices in each location to determine which app came out cheapest locally. <\/p>\n\n\n

NetCredit<\/span><\/figcaption><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\nHere’s where it gets interesting: Grubhub was the most affordable option in 24 states, including Florida and New York, while DoorDash and Uber Eats were cheapest in 13 states each. On the major-city front, DoorDash took the win in places like Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle, among other big metropolitan areas.<\/p>\n
Even within the same state, the “winner” can flip. NetCredit found that while DoorDash was the cheapest overall in California, San Diego bucks the trend with Grubhub, and San Jose leans toward Uber Eats. And in NYC, the report found Grubhub was about 8.4% to 12.4% cheaper than DoorDash and Uber Eats overall, which is the kind of info I would\u2019ve liked before<\/em> I ordered that $38 burrito last night.<\/p>\n\n\n

When NetCredit zoomed in on McDonald\u2019s specifically, it found Grubhub was still the cheapest option in 24 states, plus Rhode Island, where it tied with DoorDash. The report also found Uber Eats was the cheapest delivery option for McDonald’s in Phoenix and Seattle, while DoorDash and Grubhub were equally affordable in Indianapolis and New York City. <\/p>\n
So if you\u2019re like me and trying to keep the occasional food delivery order in your rotation without letting fees and markups drain your bank account, a quick app price check before you hit “place order” might be the most satisfying thing you do all week.<\/p>\n\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n
