Blake Lively might be best known for her television and film roles (Gossip Girl is a forever classic) and booming businesses (she’s the founder of Betty Buzz, Betty Booze, and her haircare line, Blake Brown Beauty), but when it comes to her home life, she’s just Mom—a title that might keep her even busier than her impressive professional pursuits.
While chatting with Delish—just after launching her latest Betty Booze release, Vodka Iced Teas—Lively opened up about what it’s really like feeding a bustling house of four kids. “I always was like, ‘I’m gonna be the parent that’s gonna make one meal, and you’re gonna get what you get, and they’re gonna love it,” she says. But, she admits, “They have such different palates.”
Ultimately, that plan didn’t work out. Instead, she laughs, “I’m a restaurant myself where, ‘Oh, I’ll have this and I’ll take the this.'”
“Can you guys just agree on one thing so I can make one thing?” Lively jokes.
While she might not have predicted motherhood would mean wearing the hat of a short-order cook, she finds the joy in unexpected role nonetheless.
“I do really love to cook so I do end up making different things for different kids,” she admits. “Their palates change. They try a lot when they’re little, and then they just wanna go into beige foods. There’s that period. And then they start trying things again. Even my palate changes so much. It’s fun. I love cooking.”
Lively’s kids—whom she shares with husband Ryan Reynolds—aren’t the only ones willing to experiment a little when it comes to cuisine. She’s just as down, maybe thanks to her ever-changing palate. Case in point: her unconventional lemonade recipe.
“I just really like butter. Anything butter. Butter is in our lemonades,” she reveals. “It’s my little secret. My little umami. I know it’s a weird thing. It just gives it a little je ne sais quoi.”
Guess we can’t knock it till we try it. (Honestly, I think we need to try it!)
