Shortly after Burrell’s tragic passing, her family released an official statement confirming the news.
“Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend—her smile lit up every room she entered,” they said in a statement. “Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal.”
She Spent Her Final Hours Doing What She Loves
According to People, Burrell spent her Monday evening performing an improv show at The Second City New York. “Everyone said she was so great last night and so happy,” a source told the outlet, while another added that she “was in great spirits” during and after the show. “Typical fun, outgoing Anne, having a blast,” the insider said.
Just last week, Burrell teased the performance on social media.
“Sooooooo…as I have mentioned I have been taking Improv classes @thesecondcitytc and having an ABSOLUTE blast!!! My class and I are coming to the end of this term and we get to do an actual show!!!” She wrote on Instagram. “If anyone is interested in stopping by on Monday June 16 at 9 pm @thesecondcity in Brooklyn please feel free!! We are a small but SUPER fun bunch!!”
Following the news, Second City New York shared a tribute to Anne, writing, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of our friend and student.”

She Was Found “Unconscious And Unresponsive” At The Scene
The New York City Police Department confirmed that Burrell was found “unconscious and unresponsive” at the scene of her death. The 76th precinct responded at around 7:50 a.m. on Tuesday. EMS “responded and pronounced her deceased on the scene.”
Anne Reportedly Went Into “Cardiac Arrest”
While an official cause of death is still pending an autopsy with the Office of Chief Medical Examiner, Page Six reports that the 911 caller said Burrell went into “cardiac arrest” and was “DOA [dead on arrival].”
