Lisa Kudrow, she’s just like us! Yes, just like the masses, she too is a fangirl when it comes to the popular Great British Baking Show. During her recent appearance on the podcast Armchair Expert to promote her latest show, Kudrow received a phone call and the world discovered that her ringtone is a familiar tune… Enter: The theme song for the Great British Baking Show.
Though we can only hear the ring tone for a few seconds at the end of her convo with Dax Shepard (apparently it was Kudrow’s publicist calling), the soothing, whimsical tune that plays over scenes of bakers whisking and folding in a charming white tent is unmistakable—perfectly capturing the cozy, heartwarming essence of the show and, apparently, Kudrow’s daily vibe. (Why is this so perfect?)
During an appearance on Hits Radio UK, Kudrow revealed some other things she loves about the UK, including, obviously, digestive biscuits:
(By the way—the Great British Baking Show theme song is written by Tom Howe, whose other work you’re probably familiar with. He’s the composer responsible for a handful of popular television shows and movies, like Daisy Jones & The Six and another UK-based gem, Ted Lasso.)
The actress, who is currently starring in the new Netflix series No Good Deed, is no stranger to spending time in the kitchen herself. Much like her character Phoebe on Friends, she’s known to whip up a mean cookie (we all remember Phoebe’s famous oatmeal raisin cookies and her “grandmother’s” famous chocolate chip cookies don’t we?). At least, that’s what she told Paul Hollywood on a 2020 episode of Paul Goes To Hollywood. “I like making brownies from scratch, and chocolate chip cookies, and coming up with different cookie recipes” she claimed. She also famously and fittingly has a cookie jar from the set of Friends in her office.
In fact, Kudrow’s interest in creating goodies in the kitchen goes way back. In a 1999 episode of Late Night with Conan, the talk show host shares that Kudrow makes a “special dessert that [she] whip[s] up for good friends.” He reminisces with Kudrow that “you’d buy a big bag of M&M’s, pour ’em on a tray, put them in the microwave, and melt it into goo…and you’d say it’s an old family recipe.” A little nod to Friends, I see.
While this easy “recipe” might not land Kudrow as a contestant on GBBO, we can certainly see why she enjoys the calming baking show. Between Prue Leith, Paul Hollywood, and the Jack Sparrow of baking, what’s not to love?
You’re a star baker in our eyes, Lisa.
