McDonald’s has been teasing us for months over the rumored return of its cult-favorite Snack Wrap. And just when we were starting to lose our patience (and hope) that the dream would actually be realized, the fast food chain has made it official.
“Snack wraps xx.xx.2025,” McDonald’s ever so casually dropped on X. “See u next year on xx.xx.” The exciting news comes off the heels of chain’s deadly E. coli outbreak and is basically its apology letter to customers.
“We let people down. I want to apologize to all of our customers who were harmed by this incident,” McDonald’s USA President Joe Erlinger said of the outbreak in a Good Morning America appearance on Thursday, before announcing the Snack Wrap’s return to menus.
Referring to the raw slivered onions used on Quarter Pounders that were eventually linked to the deadly E. coli outbreak, Erlinger assured fans, “We stopped using the supplier facility from which they came and we stopped sourcing onions from the farm.”
Erlinger confirmed that the outbreak has officially been declared over by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
“The CDC and FDA announcement earlier this week gave us the all-clear,” he said. “The investigation is over, but the work’s not done at McDonald’s.”
Erlinger called food safety the company’s “top priority,” and added that they are focused on rebuilding trust with customers. “We have work to do that, it will be ongoing,” he said.
The Snack Wrap’s return is a longtime coming. Almost exactly one year ago, Erlinger promised fans that the menu item would be back…at some point. However, he gave no real indication of the timeline and on what level it would return. Consumers began speculating in July that this could be sooner rather than later, after the Snack Wrap’s missing link (the McCrispy Chicken) started popping up on menus across North Carolina. Clearly, they were right.
Now, fans are celebrating. They quickly flooded McDonald’s announcement post in glee. “Wait bestie are you serious,” one user wrote. “Xmas miracle,” another wrote.
“Drooling 4 snack wraps,” a third person shared…with an actual photo of them drooling.
According to the fast food joint’s marketing director, it’s posts like this that inspired McDonald’s to bring back the Snack Wraps to begin with.
“If you ever wonder if your posts here matter, if they have an impact, if we even care, let me tell you something, you and you only with your countless posts and requests and petitions made it happen,” Guillaume Huin wrote on the platform. “They were in all our meetings, all our discussions, every single powerpoint to make a case for it. You won, snack wrap fans. Thank you.”
So…uh…what should we set our sights on next? You heard the man.
