Just when we thought it was too early in the holiday season to be breaking out the tissues, TikTok has gone and warmed our hearts with the most wholesome story.
If you’ve ever found yourself scrolling through TikTok, you may have come across a viral video or two from @dollartreedinners. The account, run by Rebecca Chobat, shares recipe videos for satisfying meals that can be made using ingredients from Dollar Tree. One of her recent videos, which shows how you can cook up a Dollar Tree Thanksgiving dinner for just $20, has received over 3 million views.
Then, just yesterday, fellow TikToker @calebcooks94 took to his account to praise Dollar Tree Dinners, while sharing the story of meeting a woman at an actual Dollar Tree who is able to give her children a real Thanksgiving dinner thanks to Chobat’s super affordable recipes.
“We ended up having a really good conversation. And she said that for Thanksgiving this year she was just gonna do frozen meals or something, but she said because of those videos she’s actually gonna be able to give her kids a real Thanksgiving dinner. And her kids are excited for it,” he explained.
This video has since been flooded (over 12,000 comments!) with praise and testimonials from people who have also been saved by Dollar Tree Dinners when they were in a tough spot financially.
“I’ve made so many of her meals, and got the idea about the pan-fried deli slices. my partner and i went through a period west we were legit spending $20 on groceries at the dollar store, and she helped us through it,” said one person.
“I didn’t even know about this until this video. I might actually be able to have some kind of Thanksgiving dinner for my son before I go to work. thank you for talking about it,” another user added.
Others revealed that they’d “go to war” for @dollartreedinners, and one person applauded the account for removing the stigma of not having money for fancy dinners or holidays.
“Dollar Tree Dinner Lady is giving people not only meal ideas but DIGNITY 🥹,” they wrote.
“Yea!!! Perfect word. Having less money does not diminish our worth,” another person chimed in.
Who knew there’d be so much onion cutting this Thanksgiving?
