Costco shoppers are being urged to check their groceries following the recall of several items over listeria concerns. The recalled items included smoked salmon, two different chicken meal kits, and frozen Belgian waffles.

Costco is recalling their Kirkland Signature Smoked Salmon. The salmon, which is provided by Acme Smoked Fish Corp., was potentially contaminated with the bacteria listeria monocytogenes.

In a release Costco shared earlier this week, the warehouse announced that the decision to inform customers was made out of “an abundance of caution.” Customers are asked to look out for Kirkland Signature Smoked Salmon products purchased between October 9, 2024 and October 13, 2024 with the lot number 8512801270.

Like the smoked salmon recall, the chicken meal kits sold at Costco were also recalled due to potential listeria contamination. This recall stems from a bigger one initiated by BrucePac Foods, a supplier of poultry products.

The Costco recall is for Rana Chicken Truffle Carbonara and Tagliatelle Grilled White Chicken & Portabello Mushroom Sauce. Both products are made with chicken provided by BrucePac Foods, and the recall affects items sold in September and October.

For both the meal kit and smoked salmon recalls, customers are asked not to consume the products and instead return them to Costco for a full refund.

Costco also sent out a letter this week about their Krusteaz Belgian Waffles recall. Waffles from this brand purchased at Costco between October 13 and 21 are being recalled as they are related to a larger frozen waffle and pancake recall that was announced earlier this week.

With the unsettling rise in recalls over listeria concerns, customers should be aware of the symptoms of listeria infection. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, symptoms of the illness include fever, flu-like symptoms, headache, confusion, and stiff neck. For those infected with an intestinal listeria illness, symptoms to watch out for include diarrhea and vomiting.
