Some Costco customers have been fighting online after the return of a popular item. The argument began shortly after Laura of @costcohotfinds announced on Instagram that Costco’s beef chili had returned to the store, just in time for cozy season.
“The chili is back at Costco and we love it!! This is 4lbs of hearty beef chili!” she wrote in the caption.
While some users shared their excitement over the chili’s return, others have expressed their shock in the past at beans being an ingredient in the chili. For some people (especially those from Texas) beans are not allowed in chili.
“There’s no beans in chili……I don’t know what that is but it’s not chili…… still looks pretty good though,” one person wrote.
Their response was met with well over a dozen comments from users pushing back on the notion that beans don’t belong in chili.
“The chili at Costco is super bland and under seasoned,” another complained.
“Just because you don’t want beans doesn’t mean it isn’t Chili,” one user replied.
“Regional difference. Still chili,” another TikToker chimed in.
“We were raised with beans in chili, so I say w/beans,” said a pro-bean Costco fan.
“Says every self respecting m-fer in Texas.”
“Really, you the fricken chili police, there are sooooooo many different chilis out there.”
And then user followed up with: “Are there beans?!?”
To be fair, Texas chili, which also happens to be the official state dish, is always made without beans. It has plenty of other hearty ingredients to hold you over, though, including beef chuck roast and even beer.
Will you be trying on Costco’s chili this year or are you on Team No Beans?
