We’ve seen a lot this year, from droughts to strikes affecting the price of everyday items like food and paper goods. But we didn’t expect to add olive oil heist to the list.
According to Houston’s KHOU11, thieves in the city stole $2.5 million worth of premium olive oil from Terra Delyssa, an organic olive oil made from 100% Tunisian olives. Unfortunately for the company, the warehouse the olive oil was housed in did not have operational security cameras.
If you’re wondering what $2.5 million in olive oil looks like, let’s just say you’ll be all set on your healthy fats and antioxidants for a long time. In total, the bandits got away with approximately 18 truckloads containing 290 pallets, each with 672 bottles.
For Terra Delyssa, the heist is a devastating blow for the company, which prides itself on its ability to be transparent with customers.
CHO America, the manufacturer of Terra Delyssa, has obtained some leads to help with the recovery of their products, but they’re asking that anyone who is offered their olive oil at an unusually low price to report the encounter.
“Knowing our product is being sold at half-price or one-fourth the price at some stores now is devastating, too,” CHO America CEO Wajih Rekik shared with KHOU11.
