For some, the Super Bowl is the ultimate display of American sports. But for the rest of us, it’s a great excuse to eat all of our favorite apps, throw back a few Jell-O shots, and yell for the team with the best color combo. No matter how you celebrate this sacred Sunday sport, your watch party won’t be complete without these adorable, football-shaped rum and Coke Jell-O shots. To amp up the Coke flavor and balance the bitter lime, these shots are sweetened with homemade Coca-Cola syrup that’s made by simply boiling down some of the fizzy beverage to concentrate the flavor. Feel free to use dark or light rum, and save the extra lime juice for margaritas, a big bowl of guac, or a batch of spiked coconut limeade.
Did you try these Jell-O shots? Let us know how it went in the comments!

Ingredients
- 18 oz.
Coke, divided
- 10
small limes, halved lengthwise
- 1/4 oz.
Knox gelatin powder (from 1 envelope)
- 3 oz.
rum
-
Store-bought tube of cookie icing, for decorating
-
- Step 1In a small saucepan over high heat, bring 12 ounces Coke to a boil. Continue to boil until reduced to about 2 ounces, about 25 minutes. Transfer to a small bowl.
- Step 2Meanwhile, juice limes, reserving 1/2 ounce juice. Working one at a time, turn each lime half inside out. Starting at either end of each half, using a paper towel or clean dishcloth, peel back the layer of white fiber between peel and lime flesh, remove, and discard. Rinse each lime half with cold water, pat dry, and transfer to 2 standard 12-cup muffin tins.
- Step 3Into same saucepan, pour remaining 6 ounces Coke and sprinkle gelatin over. Gently stir to combine, then cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, until powder dissolves, about 5 minutes.
- Step 4Pour gelatin mixture into a large glass measuring cup. Add Coke syrup, rum, and reserved 1/2 ounce lime juice and stir to combine. Making sure each lime is level, divide Coke mixture among lime shells. Wrap muffin tins with plastic wrap and refrigerate until Jell-O is set, about 4 hours.
- Step 5Slice each Jell-O lime in half lengthwise to make football-shaped wedges.
- Step 6Using decorating frosting, pipe football laces onto each wedge. Serve chilled.
